Memory Leak and Cleanup Verification

This document describes the memory leak testing and cleanup verification for Orion.

Summary

Orion has been verified to have zero memory leaks using Valgrind memory analysis tool.

Valgrind Results

LEAK SUMMARY:
definitely lost: 0 bytes in 0 blocks ✅
indirectly lost: 0 bytes in 0 blocks ✅
possibly lost: 0 bytes in 0 blocks ✅

Cleanup Functions

Orion provides comprehensive cleanup through ui_shutdown_graphics():

  1. Window Cleanup - Destroys all windows and child windows
  2. Hook Cleanup - Frees all registered window hooks
  3. Joystick Cleanup - Closes SDL joystick if opened
  4. Renderer Cleanup - Deletes shaders, VAO, VBO
  5. Texture Cleanup - Deletes internal white texture
  6. Console Cleanup - Clears console state
  7. Text Rendering Cleanup - Deletes font atlas, VAO, VBO
  8. SDL Cleanup - Deletes OpenGL context and window

Idempotency

All cleanup functions are idempotent - safe to call multiple times.

Running Tests

make test
valgrind --leak-check=full ./build/bin/test_memory_leak_test
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=dummy valgrind --leak-check=full ./build/bin/test_integration_cleanup
